Teringat pada adik aku yang meninggal dalam tempoh 2 bulan++ selepas mengetahui dirinya menghidapi kanser paru-paru... Alfatihah untuk arwah adikku...
*******************************************************************
Muhammad Afiq Haiqal is five years old, and he is facing the toughest fight of his life as he is born with blood cancer, acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).
In this day and age, ALL is considered an “expensive disease” and certainly not helping matters is that he is born in a poor family. His parents were overjoyed for having him as their second son but could not disguise their sadness when he was diagnosed with cancer.
Children of this age are generally active and carefree. They throw balls and kick them without any care in the world. They would jump with two feet together. This is also the time they would develop discomfort for wet or soiled diapers. They start to acquaint themselves with what is regarded as “toilet training.” It is also quite common for children to be taking things apart and putting them back together. Generally, children are arguably more active at that age than at any other points in their lives.
But Afiq is born with something never wished by any parents. He is undergoing chemotherapy, bone marrow transplantation, consuming heavy antibiotics and high dosages of cancer drugs. Instead of going to playground, he is going to hospital everyday in the hospital’s ambulance accompanied by his mother.
Afiq lives in Kelantan and within two months after being diagnosed with ALL in Sept 2009, doctors prescribed him chemotherapy. Doctors believed that by the time he was certified with cancer, it was already late as it had spread all over his body. Doctors at Hospital USM Kelantan did speculate that there was a possibility that that cancer cells were in Afiq’s body right from the birth, but they were not sure what could have been the possible reason.
Afiq has one older and one younger brother. Both of them are going to school, and have pretty much the kind of life other normal kids have. His father is struggling hard to earn a livelihood for his family. He works as a contract worker, hardly making enough, usually just about RM500 every month. On the other hand, his mother who used to work and contribute somet hing to the income of family is now looking after Afiq full-time seeing that his condition has reached the status of terminal.
Like most people, Afiq’s parents have very little understanding of the vast horizon and complexities of medical science. From speaking to them, one would learn that they hold themselves responsible for giving so much pain to a five year old kid. They are just ready to do anything, which can help his son get his life back, to be able to see and enjoy life just like other kids.
The result of Afiq’s recent prognosis was not good. The CT scan result showed that the cancer cells have started accumulating inside his brain. The brain cells are getting “mixed” with the blood cells, which is causing his brain to bulge and swell. At this moment, the doctor had to stop the treatment of chemotherapy as he needs to recover from his internal head bleeding. As if things are not bad enough, Afiq recently became paralysed.
MAKNA is supporting Afiq with RM200 per month for the past one year, and also supplied him a chemoport worth RM 750. It is time we raise more money for Afiq. That’s why we are going to the public, sharing his story and asking for help from anyone wishing to help him. If you have been moved by his story, please join us in sponsoring him the following:
Monthly Expenses: RM200 x 12 months = RM2400 (yearly)
Chemoport = RM750
Total = RM3150
Even a small donation will bring a whole lot of difference to the life of five-year old Afiq. MAKNA wishes nothing but to see this boy in school, and not in the hospital. We are determined to see to it that this registers another success story.
How about you?
Donate generously, and give meaning to the life of Afiq.
Help us extend this hope to many other poor patients like him!
